Marchand Luxury Oak: Flooring with a Conscience - An Environmental Overview

At Marchand Luxury Oak, we believe that beautiful flooring shouldn't come at the expense of our planet. That's why we're proud to share the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for our engineered wood flooring products, providing you with transparent insights into their environmental performance. Our EPD based on rigorous international standards (ISO 14025 and EN 15804), offers a comprehensive look at our commitment to sustainability throughout the entire lifecycle of our oak flooring.

What is an EPD and Why Does it Matter?

An Environmental Product Declaration is a standardised, third-party verified document that details the environmental impacts of a product. Think of it as a nutritional label, but for the environment. It allows you, our valued customers, architects, and designers, to make informed decisions based on factual data regarding the ecological footprint of the materials you choose.

Marchand Luxury Oak: Key Environmental Highlights

Our EPD focuses on our engineered wood flooring, featuring a stunning oak surface and a stable plywood core. Here are some key takeaways:

  • Resource Efficiency: Our multi-layer construction, with a declared unit of 1 m² optimises the use of precious oak, utilizing plywood for the core and back layers.

  • Low Emissions: We are committed to healthy indoor environments. Our flooring boasts a Reaction to Fire rating of Dfl-s1 and a low formaldehyde release of E1 (<5 ppm), ensuring safety and air quality in your spaces.

  • Responsible Sourcing: Our products hold FSC Standard for Chain of Custody Certification, guaranteeing that the wood we use comes from responsibly managed forests.

  • Manufacturing with Minimal Waste: Our production process prioritises efficiency. Notably, no wastewater is generated during manufacturing, and even our sawdust byproduct is repurposed by being sold.

  • Life Cycle Assessment Transparency: The EPD provides a detailed summary of the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), evaluating environmental impacts from raw material extraction (cradle) through manufacturing, transportation, installation, use, end-of-life, and even potential benefits beyond the system (gate-to-gate with options: A1-A5, B, C + D). This comprehensive approach ensures we understand and minimise our environmental footprint at every stage.

  • Key Environmental Performance Indicators: The EPD meticulously outlines indicators such as Global Warming Potential (GWPtotal), Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP), Acidification Potential (AP), Eutrophication Potential (EPmarine), and resource use. While the full detailed results are available in the complete EPD, the summary provides valuable insights into our environmental performance across various categories.

Material Composition and Packaging: Environmental overview

We believe in transparency down to the very materials we use. Our EPD clearly outlines the weight and biogenic carbon content of each component, from the oak surface to our adhesive and natural oils. Similarly, we detail the materials used in our packaging, striving to minimise our impact even in delivery and ensure materials can be recycled on our NZ building sites.
