Breathe Easy with Marchand Flooring: Independently Tested for Healthy Indoor Air Quality

At Marchand Flooring, our commitment to your well-being extends beyond the beauty and durability of our engineered oak. We understand that the air quality within your home is paramount. That's why we go the extra mile to ensure our products meet the highest standards for low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) emissions.

We're thrilled to share the results of our independent VOC emission testing, conducted in accordance with the rigorous CDPH/EHLB Standard Method V1.2 (Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental Chamber Version 1.2). This comprehensive testing provides you with the assurance that when you choose Marchand, you're not only selecting a stunning and sustainable flooring solution but also contributing to a healthier indoor environment.

Understanding VOCs: Invisible Yet Important, Breathe Easy

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are chemicals that vaporise at room temperature and can be emitted from various indoor materials, including furniture, paints and adhesives. While many VOCs are harmless, some can have adverse effects on health, especially with prolonged exposure. This is why stringent testing standards like the CDPH/EHLB Standard Method V1.2 are crucial in evaluating the potential impact of building materials on indoor air quality.

Rigorous Testing for Your Peace of Mind; Healthy indoor air quality

Our engineered wood sample underwent thorough evaluation in a controlled environmental chamber. This testing meticulously simulated real-world conditions, measuring the release of various VOCs over a 96-hour period. The key parameters of the test included:

  • Test Specimen Expose Area (Ac): 0.086 m²

  • Chamber Volume (Vc): 0.120 m³

  • Loading Ratio (L): 0.720 m²/m³

  • Air Change Rate (n): 1.0 ± 0.1 h⁻¹

  • Inlet Flow Rate (Q): 0.120 m³/h

  • Area Specific Flow Rate (qA): 1.388 m/h

  • Temperature (T): 23 ± 0.5 °C

  • Relative Humidity (RH): 50 ± 5 %

These precise conditions allowed for an accurate assessment of the VOC emissions from our engineered wood flooring.

The Results Are In: Marchand Flooring Complies!

We are delighted to report that the independent laboratory testing concluded that our engineered wood flooring is compliant with the requirements of the CDPH/EHLB Standard Method V1.2 for VOC emissions. This underscores our dedication to providing products that prioritise your health and well-being.

Key Highlights from the Test Report:

  • Minimal Individual VOC Emissions: The test results revealed that many individual VOCs analysed, including common concerns like carbon tetrachloride, isopropanol, chloroform, benzene, and a wide array of other compounds, were below the lower limit of quantitation (LQ) of 2 μg/m³. This indicates exceptionally low levels of these specific VOCs being emitted from our flooring.

  • Low Formaldehyde Levels: Formaldehyde is a VOC of particular concern, and we are pleased to report that our engineered wood flooring demonstrated very low emissions. Over the 96-hour testing period, formaldehyde chamber concentrations decreased, culminating in an estimated classroom concentration of just 1.4 μg/m³. This is significantly below the stringent allowable standard of 9 μg/m³ for classrooms, earning our flooring a resounding "Pass" evaluation for educational environments.

  • Responsible Total VOC (TVOC) Emissions: The measurement of Total Volatile Organic Compounds (TVOC) provides an overall picture of the total VOCs emitted. While the TVOC levels fluctuated during the initial 48 hours, by the 96-hour mark, the estimated office concentration was a comfortable 30.3 μg/m³, well within the acceptable limits for office spaces. This demonstrates that the overall VOC emissions from our flooring are well-managed and pose minimal risk to indoor air quality.

  • Passing Across Environments: The comprehensive testing evaluated the estimated VOC concentrations in both classroom and office settings against established allowable standards. We are proud that our engineered wood flooring achieved a "Pass" evaluation for both environments for all measured VOCs, including acetic acid and an unidentified compound that were also analysed.

What This Means for You

This positive test report provides you with the confidence that Marchand is a responsible choice for your flooring needs. By selecting our engineered wood flooring, you can be assured that you are:
